About Project
Karmik Infra delivered a comprehensive hardscape development project at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (Bengaluru) campus, creating durable, functional, and aesthetically refined outdoor spaces.
The project focused on enhancing usability and visual appeal across key areas of the campus. A thoughtfully designed seating zone beneath existing tree lawns now provides a comfortable, shaded environment for staff and visitors.
The scope also included driveway development, stone detailing around trees, and installation of lighting elements to improve safety and ambience. Over 1,000+ plants across 18 varieties were integrated within the hardscape to create a seamless blend of built and natural environments.
Challenges & Solutions
Executing within an active campus required speed, coordination, and precision while ensuring quality and durability across all elements.
Challenges:
- Time-Sensitive Project Execution
- Early Morning Material Handling
- Specialized Lighting Procurement
- Durability & Site Protection Needs
Solutions:
- 30-Member Team Completed Work in One Day
- Streamlined Logistics & On-Site Coordination
- Vendor Coordination for Custom Lighting
- PCC Base for Pavers & Cobble Stability
- Tree Guards & Stone Edging Installed
- 300mm Jelly Layer for Drainage & Protection
Outcome of the Project
The IISc hardscape project resulted in a highly functional and visually cohesive outdoor environment.
- Enhanced pedestrian and vehicular movement with paver and granite driveways
- Improved usability with comfortable shaded seating areas
- Increased safety and aesthetics through bollard and post lighting
- Sustainable landscape integration with planting and tree protection measures
- Long-lasting infrastructure built with high-quality materials and execution standards
The project stands as a benchmark for combining engineering precision with landscape sensitivity in institutional spaces.
